Dorothy Phillips, 76, Stratford, died Thursday, March 11, 1999 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She had been a resident since June of 1985. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Stratford. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford on Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 7-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church.

Dorothy George, the daughter of Allan and Cleora Wells George, was born Nov. 23, 1922 in Humboldt. She graduated in 1940 from Humboldt High School and worked until 1952 at the Humboldt County Courthouse as a secretary in the Auditor's Offices and as a deputy clerk. She married Lawrence Gene Phillips on Nov. 23, 1952 at Humboldt. She also worked as a secretary at the REC office in Humboldt and at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford until her retirement. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, various church circles and she also served as treasurer of the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Lora Phillips of Waterloo, two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Mike Anderson of West Liberty, Sheila and Mark Clark, New Castle, CO., two grandsons, Chris Phillips, Boone and Seth Anderson, West Liberty, one granddaughter, Brandy Anderson, Iowa City, two brothers, Junior George and Jerry George, all of Humboldt, one sister, Darice Gates of Curlew, several nieces and nephews.
