Phillip C. Johnson, 80, of Jewell died March 20, 2918 at his home in Jewell. The family received friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. A private family graveside service at South Marion cemetery in rural Stratford will be at a later date.

Phil was born October 27, 1937 in Stratford, Iowa to Garrett and Nettie (Carlstedt) Johnson. Phil served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. He married Julia Ford on November 26, 1961. Phil owned and operated his own trucking company for many years; it was a job he truly loved.

Phil lived in the Jewell area most of his life and was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, VFW in Boone and the American Legion in Webster City. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but the one thing he really enjoyed were his grandchildren.

Phil is survived by his wife, Julia Johnson of Jewell; a daughter, Rochelle (Doug) Hill of Stratford; a son, Nicholas (Shelli) Johnson of Stanhope; four grandchildren, Tony, Jessica, Tjerdan and Garrett; and two great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Adalynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kirk Johnson; three brothers, Orland, Orval and Marvin and three sisters, Marcelle Bergman, Shirley Vinchattle and Phyllis Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell is entrusted with arrangements.
