Lacey Walker

RIDGEFIELD PARK - Lacey Walker, 85, former mayor of Teaneck, died Friday at his home, 265 Main St.

Born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Mr. Walker attended schools in Iowa and the Walton School of Commerce, where he majored in accounting and business law. Before retiring he was employed by the American Petroleum Institute, a national trade association, for 39 years. Before that he worked for the Iowa Railroad Commission as a statistician.

Mr. Walker was a charter member of the Teaneck Masonic Lodge since 1928. He was also director emeritus for 45 years of the Teaneck Building and Loan Association, which later was consolidated and became known as the Central Bergen Savings and Loan Association in Ridgefield Park.

In 1928 he was elected to the Teaneck Township Committee, and served as mayor in 1930. He was fire commissioner from 1928 to 1929.

Surviving are two children, Mary E. Unger of Lindenhurst, L.I., and Johnnie Walker of Haworth, three sisters, Gayle Myers of Des Moines, Iowa, Lucille Stanley of Davenport, Iowa, and Louise Maxim of Joliet, Ill., two brothers, Ralph Walker of Santa Clara, Calif., and Roscoe Walker of Des Moines, Iowa; two granddaughters, Sandra Benardella of Norwood and Lacey Thiery of Denville; and five great-grandchildren. His first wife died in 1959 and his second wife in 1971.

Cremation took place at Cedar Lawn Crematory in Paterson. Cremains will be buried in Iowa. Funeral arrangements are by the French Funeral Home in Dumont.
