Mrs. Carl Samuelson

Funeral services for Mrs. Carl Samuelson were held in the local Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and were conducted by the Rev. Phillip Holmberg of Boxholm. A brief service was held in the family home at which Misses Velva and Ardelle Berglund sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer," and a mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. Elmer Snyder, Mrs. Coy Smith, E.G. Erickson and Lester Anderson, sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Asleep in Jesus." At the church service this quartet sang, "Abide With Me." Following the services the remains were taken to the South Marion cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were Charley Lundgren, David Lundgren, Oscar Johnson, E.E. Dahlien, John Benson and Oscar Johnson.

Mrs. Carl Samuelson, nee Hilda Christine Johnson, was born in Östergötland, Sweden, Sept. 22, 1849 and died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.F. Ferlen, on Aug. 14, 1935, at the ripe old age of 85 years, 10 months, 23 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Sweden and on May 20, 1873 was married there to Carl Samuelson. Three children were born of this union. The family immigrated to America in July, 1886 and located in this vicinity which has since been the home of the deceased. In 1889 she affiliated with the local Lutheran church of which she has remained a faithful member.

Her husband preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1921 and a daughter, Mrs. J.W. Anderson died in New Cabria, Kan., on July 11, 1925. Since the death of her husband she has had the affectionate care of her daughter, Mrs. Ferlen, with whom she had made her home.

Those who survive her are her two daughters, Mrs. Hulda Barquist and Mrs. E.F. Ferlen, both of this place, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

She was a true Christian of a quiet and unassuming nature and though confined to her bed for over three years, was appreciative and patient and maintained a thoughtful consideration of others to the last. During the last few weeks it had been apparent that her strength was failing and Wednesday morning she very quietly rested in sleep.
