Columbus J. Rose was born at Minneapolis, Minn., July 17, 1892, and passed away in his room at Stratford March 18, 1952, at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 1 day. All but the first year of his life had been lived in Stratford.

Chris received his education in the Stratford school. He was stricken with polio after he had reached manhood, but uncomplainingly bore this affliction throughout his life.

He had worked as a mechanic for many years in various garages and at the time of his death he was employed in the Fisher Garage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank [Matilda Christina Quick] Rose. He is survived by his brother, Franklin, and one nephew, John Rose, of Stratford; also one niece, Miss Beverly Rose of Des Moines, besides other relatives and numerous friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Jackson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Otto Steele officiating. Songs for the services were sung by Mrs. Harold Westrum, with Mrs. Harold Scott as accompanist. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Earl Anderson and Mrs. Wilma Erickson.

Following the services, the remains were taken to the South Marion Cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were: Homer Mellgren, J.R. Gustafson, LeRoy Fisher, Weldon Sonksen, J.C. Bricker and Carlos Shoberg.
