Obituary

JOHN C. PETERSON

Funeral services for John C. Peterson, were held Sunday, June 24, 1962 at the First Baptist Church in Stratford with the Rev. Kerwin Goodwin in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Erickson sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Merlin Angstrom.

Pallbearers were Leonard Angstrom, Russ Van Marel, Martin Westrum, Marvin Westrum, Harold Westrum and James Coulter.

Burial was in the South Marion Cemetery with the Hanson Funeral home in charge.

John Clifford Peterson, son of Peter and Ella [Vedeen] Peterson, was born May 16, 1898 on a farm northeast of Stratford and died suddenly June 21, 1962 of a heart attack at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 5 days.

In infancy he was baptized in the South Marion Methodist Church. He received his education in the rural schools near his home.

He was united in marriage to Edith Crouse on Sept. 17, 1924. After their marriage they made their home on the family farm until shortly after the time of her death when he moved into Stratford. Three sons were born to this marriage.

During the years he was a faithful companion to his invalid brother, Eleck. His family and farming were his chief interests.

He was a member of the town council and active in various community organizations giving freely of his time. While not a member, he was a regular attendant at Sunday school and church services at the First Baptist church.

Survivors include his three sons, Weldon Eugene Peterson of Boone, Delbert Leon and Denzel Ivan Peterson, both of Stratford; one brother, Eleck; eight grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; two sisters, Emily and Mabel; five brothers, Elmer, Edd, Henry, Floyd and Oscar.
