Helen Jean Peterson, 65, formerly of 216 West 5th Street, Boone, Iowa, passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa on Tuesday evening, February 18, 1997 due to heart failure. She had been a resident of the Ledges Manor since 1985.

She was born on April 19, 1931 in rural Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of Francis and Grace (York) Kline.

On November 27, 1949 she married Denzel Ivan Peterson at the Baptist Church in Stratford, Iowa.

Jean graduated from high school in Stratford, Iowa in 1949. She was a homemaker and helped her husband in the farm operation in Stratford until 1968. In 1970 she moved to Boone, Iowa.

Jean was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Magi Chapter #139 and the First Baptist Church both of Boone, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Denzel Peterson in December 1968, three sisters, and one brother.

Survivors include one son and one daughter-in-law; Ron and Marcy Peterson of Ogden, Iowa, two daugters and a son-in-law, Jan Peterson of Waterloo, Iowa and Susan and Bill Sharp of Boone, Iowa, 2 granddaughters, Kristin and Karrie Peterson of Ogden, Iowa, 3 brothers; Jack Kline, Donald Kline and Harold Kline, all of Boone, Iowa, four sisters; Fern Kalseim of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Betty Perry of Longmont, Colorado, Mary Lou Johnson of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Ruth Wright of Citrus Heights, California, several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Friday, February 21, 1997 at the First Baptist Church in Boone, Iowa with David Schwechel officiating. Interment was in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa.

The Stark-Welin Funeral Home of Boone, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
