John A. Oppedahl Dies, Des Moines

John A. Oppedahl, 87, a former Stratford resident, died Monday evening March 7, at his home in Des Moines following a short illness.

He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. August Simpson [this is typo - it should be Siemsen] of Webster City, and Mrs. Hilman Peterson of Muncie, Ind.; two sons, Lloyd of Olney, Ill., and Gilbert Oppedahl of Webster City; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

OBITUARY
John A. Oppedahl

Funeral services for John A. Oppedahl, 87, former resident of the Stanhope-Stratford communities were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines followed by a graveside service at the South Marion Cemetery near Stratford at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Oppedahl died at his home in Des Moines Monday night.

Mr. Oppedahl was born in Burlington, Ill., but was reared and educated in the Clear Lake Township east of Stanhope.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Andrews on Nov. 28, 1899. The family resided in Stratford for many years where he was employed by the North Western Railroad until his retirement when he was 65. He had lived in Des Moines the past 6 years.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. August (Vernice) Siemsen of Webster City; Mrs. H.W. (June) Peterson, Muncie, Ind.; Lloyd Oppedahl of Flora, Ill.; and Gilbert of Boone, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a brother O.I. Oppedahl of Webster City, also several nieces and friends. His wife and a daughter, Mrs. Herman (Ivy) Hedlund preceded him in death.
