Nels Nelson was born in Christians Län, Skåne, Sweden on February 28, 1848. He passed away at Des Moines on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1917 at the age of 69 years, 9 months, 1 day. In the year 1865 he came to America from his native land and settled in Greene County, Iowa. Shortly after his arrival in this country he was married to Miss Emily Nelson and to them were born three children - a son and two daughters.

On February 11, 1885, he was married a second time to Johanna Sophia Johansson and to this union two daughters were born, Misses Hilda and Hannah, both of whom, with his wife are left to mourn his death. In 1890 he with his family moved to a farm south of Stratford where they lived until eight years ago when they moved to Stratford and have since lived here.

Deceased was confirmed and baptized in Sweden and was received into the local Lutheran church in 1909.

The funeral over the remains was held Sunday at 2 o'clock p.m. from the Lutheran church with Rev. C.A. Callerstrom in charge. The remains were laid to rest in the South Marion cemetery.

Deceased had been ailing for several months. A few days before his death he became much worse and was taken to a sanitarium in Des Moines for treatment but he survived there but a few days. He was a familiar figure in Stratford and was one of Stratford's respected old gentleman and will be missed in his home circle.
