Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Friday, January 21, 1955

Mrs. Emily Neese, 77, a longtime Stratford resident, died at 1 A.M. Friday at the Hamilton county hospital where she had been a patient since January 8. She had been in ill health the past year.

Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday at the Baptist church in Stratford preceded by a brief service at 1:15 P.M. at her former home and now the home of her son, Clifford. Burial will be in South Marion cemetery. Foster's funeral home will have charge. Rev. Stanley Peterson will officiate at the service.

Emily Westrum, daughter of Olaf and Carrie [Nyblom] Westrum, was born August 15, 1877 on a farm northeast of Stratford. She was 10 years old when she moved with her family to Nebraska, locating on a farm near Hay Springs, where she finished her education. When she was 15 years old, the family returned to the Stratford community.

She was united in marriage April 3, 1901 to Clarence Neese, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Neese farmed northeast of Stratford until 1928, then they retired and moved into Stratford, the family home since.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died April 6, 1941; by one son, who died in infancy, by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one son and one daughter; Clifford Neese and Mrs. Archie (Violet) Carlson, both of Stratford. There are also seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Theodore Carlson of Webster City.

She was baptized in the Baptist church. She was active in church work and the Ladies Aid.
