Funeral Notes

Gottlieb Mogensen

Funeral service for Gottlieb Mogensen, 84, will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. James Forstrom officiating and with burial in the South Marion Cemetery near Stratford.

Mr. Mogensen, a longtime resident of the Stanhope rural area, died Saturday at the Southfield Care Center where he had been a resident the past four months.

Gottlieb Carlo James Mogensen, son of James and Ann Jorgensen Mogensen, was born Jan. 18, 1900 at Copenhagen, Denmark. The family moved to the United States when he was 18 months old, settling in Wisconsin and later in Minnesota where he was reared and educated.

He was married to Mabel Erickson on May 5, 1934, at the South Marion Methodist church. The couple engaged in farming south of Stanhope, retiring in 1966 but continued to make their home on the farm.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters and two sons, Mrs. James (Corliss) Forstrom, Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Roger (Berneta) Balsley of Webster City, Mrs. Susan Ackerman of Lakewood, Colo., Leo Mogensen of Webster City and Jon Mogensen of Rockwell City; six grandchildren, Darren and Grant Balsley; Mark and Shannon Forstrom and Mark and Paul Mogensen. Also surviving are one sister, Bertha Stellrecht of Spooner, Wis., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
