Julius D. "Bud" Hook, 82, formerly of Boone and currently residing in West Des Moines, Iowa passed away at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday evening, July 26, 2002 due to a heart ailment.

He was born on July 5, 1920, in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Leroy and Lenora (Johnson) Hook. The family moved to Stratford, Iowa in 1932.

On August 22, 1948, he married Eileen Pomeroy at Stratford, Iowa.

Bud graduated from Stratford High School and attended the University of Dubuque and Iowa State University. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving as a Captain in the Army.

In 1962, the couple and their family moved to Boone. From 1962 until 1981, Bud owned and operated Hook and Millard Tire Company. He later served as Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for the State of Iowa until his retirement in 1987. In 1981, the couple moved to Des Moines to make their home.

Bud was a member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, Masonic Gnemeth Lodge #577, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Des Moines Consistory and the American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 in Stratford, Iowa. He enjoyed woodworking, building model airplanes and was an avid Hawkeye fan.

His parents, two brothers, Donald Hook and Marvin Hook, preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Eileen of West Des Moines; one son, Lee Hook and his wife Kathy of West Des Moines; two daughters, Lurea Ferry and her husband Skip of Bettendorf, Iowa and Lynn Martin and her husband Jim of Clive; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon, July 30, at 1:30 p.m. at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russ May officiating.

A Masonic service was conducted by Gnemeth Lodge #577 Monday evening. Interment with military honors conducted by the American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford, Iowa was held Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265-3624. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone, Iowa were in charge of arrangements.
