Carl Hjalmer Fostberg was born in Hostveda Kristianstad Skaine Sweden Dec. 30, 1892 and died Oct. 23, 1933 at the age of 40 years 9 months and 24 days. His death occurred at the county hospital in Webster City after an operation of a few days previous.

He came to America in 1910 having resided around Stratford all the time. He was united in marriage to Marie Elizabeth Anderson, of Stratford, in 1919, to which union was born four children. Before coming to this country he had been baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Sweden.

His main trade pursued that of a painter and paper hanger but because of his failing health he had not been able to do much work these last two years.

Besides his sorrowing wife he leaves to mourn his departure four children, Harold, Raymond, Inez and Margit. He is also survived by a sister, of Stratford, Mrs. John F. Lundgren, his father, two sisters and two brothers in Sweden and two sisters in Denmark. His mother, a sister and a brother have preceded him in death.

He also leaves to mourn his death many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon with a short service from the home at 2 o'clock and at the Lutheran church at 2:30 o'clock conducted by the Rev. A. Chell. At the home a Swedish duet, was sung by Miss Ellen Anderson and Mrs. Martin Hall, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." At the church a quartet composed of Mrs. Anton Chell, Mrs. Jennie Anderson, Mrs. Axel Sandegren and Mr. Raymond Berglund sang, "Oh Safe to the Rock that is Higher than I" and "God Will Take Care of You." A solo in Swedish was sung by Mrs. Chell, "Rock of Ages". Pallbearers were Karl Kane, August Johnson, Carl Johnson, Fred Carlberg, James Erickson and L.W. Johnson. Burial was made in the South Marion cemetery.
