STRATFORD - Howard E. Ewing, 72, Stanhope, died Tuesday, July 25, at the Hamilton County Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Rev. Dale Kelley officiating. Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford. Visitation at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford will be Thursday, from 6-9 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Howard E. Ewing, son of William and Eva Erb Ewing, was born March 20, 1917 in Stanhope. He married Alberta Westrum on Feb. 15, 1937 in Des Moines. The couple farmed in Stanhope and Creston, later moving to Cedar Rapids, where Mr. Ewing owned and operated a stable, and was also employed with the City Park District until 1987, when the couple moved back to Stanhope.

He is survived by his wife Alberta, Stanhope; a daughter, Penny (Mrs. Charles) Pearson, Camarillo, Calif.; a son, William L. Ewing, Reno, Nev.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and one brother.

Mr. Ewing was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Strtatford.
