C.O. Erickson Dies at 91

STRATFORD - Claus Oscar Erickson, 91, died Thursday evening at the Hamilton County Hospital where he had been a patient since Jan. 19.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church with the Rev. A.M. Youngquist officiating and with burial in South Marion Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hanson-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford from noon to 9 p.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Nora; one brother-in-law, Allen Teel of Stratford; a half-sister, and one nephew, both residing in Chicago, Ill.; also several cousins and nieces.

Mr. Erickson was born Jan. 18, 1879 in Sweden, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Arneson. He, his mother and a brother came to the United States, settling in Ridgeport, Iowa. At the age of nine years he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. John Erickson of Stratford. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith as an infant in Sweden.

On Sept. 17, 1927, he was united in marriage to Miss Nora Peel at Des Moines. He engaged in the tiling trade all his life until his retirement.

Claes Oscar Olson was born Jan. 18, 1879 at Näs, Kopparberg (Dalarnas Län), Sweden, to single mother, Sara Olsdotter (born March 19, 1859). Sara is the daughter of Olof Jonsson and Anna Matsdotter. Sara and Claus Oscar Olson emigrated to America, destined for Moingona, on May 20, 1881.

On various documents his father is listed as John or Frank Linderblad/Linderblood. By 1885, he is living with foster/adopted parents John Erick Erickson and Maria Lisa Erickson, who he continued to reside with until both their deaths.

Funeral services held Feb. 3, 1970 at Stratford Lutheran Church with interment at South Marion Cemetery.
