August 31, 1988Lyra O. Eckstein, 94, of the Eastern Star Home in Boone, died Friday, August 19, 1988.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 22 at the Calvary United Methodist Church with burial at the South Marion Cemetery.
She was born July 14, 1894 in DeKalb, Illinois to Ozra A. and Francis (McAllister) Smith.
She married Christopher Eckstein in 1910 at the Stratford Methodist Church.
Lyra was a housewife and a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Navy Mothers. She was a Gold Star Mother, having lost her son, Leon, as a prisoner of war in World War II.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher; three sons, Leon, John and Erwin; one daughter, F. Evelyn Erickson; three brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She is survived by one son, Robert and Norma Eckstein of St. Johns, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Linda Lippert of Boone; a daughter-in-law, Lucille Eckstein of Stratford; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 nephews; 5 nieces and other relatives and friends.
