Halbert P. Crim, 94, of Stanhope, passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House, in Ames, on Saturday, April 9, 2005.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13 at South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford with Layperson Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by Fredrick W. Sonksen Post #576. Visitation will be today, April 12 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford.

Survivors include his wife, Patti of Stanhope, daughter Marcia (Joel) Fritz of Webster City; sons LaVerne (Sandy) Crim of Webster City; Dale (Angela) Crim of New Paris, IN and Gary Crim of Kamrar, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Helen Bergman of Stratford, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters; Edith, Genevieve, Ruby, Lola and 4 brothers, Floyd, Edgar, Charles and Severt and 1 grandson Noah Joel Fritz.

Halbert was born June 26, 1910 in Ridgeport, IA, son of John Beldon and Bessie (Mathre) Crim. In 1913, he moved to a farm southwest of Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School in 1928.

Halbert worked for the Social Security Board in Baltimore, MD; then transferred to Chicago, IL.

Halbert was drafted into the army in 1942 and served with the 287th Observation Battalion in the Pacific Theater during WWII until he was honorably discharged in 1946.

He returned to his work in Chicago, later transferring to the Railway Mail System.

On April 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Patricia Lundquist at the South Marion United Methodist Church. The couple farmed south of Stanhope. Following retirement, Halbert liked woodworking, being out-of-doors, dancing and listening to polka music.

He was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church, Fredrick W. Sonksen Post #576 and American Legion both of Stratford, and had served as a Director on the Stanhope Elevator Board.
