Margaret (Peggy) O. Young, 76, of Stratford, Iowa, passed away February 20, 2018 at the Stratford Care Center.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 24, at 10:30 AM at Stanhope Parish in Stanhope, Iowa. Pastor Suzie Moore will officiate.

Peggy was born in Denver, Colorado, the first of three children, to Ray and Martha (Gray) Ochs on May 31, 1941. It was as a young girl growing up in Denver, that Peggy gained her life-long appreciation for community service. She became a Girl Scout, enjoying camping, singing, learning and service opportunities. Peggy graduated from South High School in Denver and then went on to Aeronautics School in Kansas City. She worked close to four years for Continental Airlines based out of Chicago.

Peggy married Jon in Denver, Colorado on February 29, 1964. The couple was blessed with three children, Kathleen, Keith, and Syrina. They raised their children on a farm seven miles southeast of Stanhope where they farmed, raising corn, soybeans, hay, and hogs.

Peggy and Jon enjoyed so many activities together like bowling and going out on dates, but their favorite thing to do was to go out dancing. They had taken lessons in Ames, but Jon states that Peggy was a very good dancer.

She enjoyed supporting all the kids at their school events, sports events, scouting escapades, and made sure that they got culture by enrolling them in piano and dancing lessons. She stayed at home while the kids were young and not only kept an immaculate household, she was a darn good cook, too. In her dedication to community, Peggy was an active member of the Stanhope Methodist Church and then the Stanhope Parish for over forty years. She was designated a Life-Long Member of the Girl Scouts of America and acted as leader, sponsor, and cheerleader. She sat as a board member of the Stanhope Town Council for fifteen years. When the kids were older, she got a job at First State Bank in Stanhope and worked there for twenty-two years before retiring.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Jon Young of Stratford, Iowa; her sister Kay (Jim) Burr of Tujunga, California, her brother, Ed (Jan) Ochs of Simi Valley, California, her children, Kathy Christie of Dayton, Iowa, Keith (Patricia) Young of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Syrina (Robert) Moussetis of Aurora, Illinois; granddaughters Amanda Christie of Dayton, Melina Moussetis of Calgary, Alberta Canada, Kiki Moussetis of Chicago, Illinois, and Nicole Young of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one great grandson, Jayden Christie of Dayton, Iowa as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
