Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Monday, August 22, 1927

James W. Wedding was born in the state of Ohio on Oct. 18, 1842, and passed to his reward from Webster City Aug. 17, 1927 at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 29 days.

At a very early age, Mr. Wedding removed with his parents to Princeton, Ill. Here he grew to manhood and later came to Hamilton county where for almost 60 years he resided.

As a young man 19 years of age he heard the call to the colors and enlisted in Company A of the 12th Illinois Volunteers in May of 1862. At the expiration of the term for which enlistment was made he was mustered out and reenlisted in February of 1864 and served until the close of the war. For many years he had been a member of Winfield Scott Post No. 06 [kind of blurry so not sure if it's 06 or 66] of the Grand Army of the Republic, and appreciated greatly the fellowship of his comrades.

Following the splendid example of their father, three sons entered the ranks during the World war. One son, James Earnest, paid the last full measure of devotion and was the first of Hamilton county's brave sons to give his life on the altar of his country.

He was united in marriage on New Year's day in the year 1878 near Homer to Miss Jennie Barton. For almost 50 years they had traveled and toiled together along the pathway of life. Besides his faithful wife of these many years, he leaves three sons and two daughters: Charles F. Wedding of Aplena, Ark.; Lloyd E. Wedding of Des Moines; Marion C. and Mrs. A.N. Brock and Mrs. C.A. Perkins, all of this city. He also leaves three grandchildren, and one brother, Charles Wedding, who lives in Princeton, Ill.

Mr. Wedding was a member of the Methodist church in this city for many years, having united with the church by transfer under the pastorate of Dr. Robert Bagnell. He was devoted to the better things of life. Upright in his dealings he gained the respect of fellowmen, and proved himself a good citizen. At the last he expressed himself to his loved ones as being ready to meet God in the final issues of destiny.
