Leah Brauer, 86, of Webster City, died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Windsor Manor. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City with Reverend Mark Eichler officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery following the services. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Leah Mae Arends, daughter of Percy and Emma Greenfield Arends, was born May 12, 1931 on her grandparents’ farm outside of Kamrar, Iowa. She graduated from Kamrar schools in 1948 and was a part of the Kamrar Komettes’ State Championship basketball team. She continued to play basketball while attending AIB in Des Moines. Leah married Richard Brauer on January 6, 1952 in Webster City. The couple lived in Big Delta, Alaska; Alexander, Iowa; Chicago, Illinois and Jewell, Iowa before settling in Webster City in 1963 where her husband practiced optometry for 30 years. Leah worked at Cook County Hospital while living in Chicago. In Webster City she was employed by Crosley and Boeye Inc., City Hall and Lubbers Clothing.

Leah is survived by her children, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Brandt of Zearing, IA; Richard (Ami) Brauer Jr. of St. Louis Park, MN; grandson, Devin Alcott Brauer of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Colleen (Lorne) Miller of Lenexa, KS; nephew and nieces, Todd Miller, Kristen (Steve) Capeluto, Ranae Arends and Jodi (Chris) Suntken.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brother, Randy Arends and niece, Joni Arends.

Leah was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank Jodi and the entire staff at Windsor Manor, April and the entire staff at Kindred Hospice as well as Mona and the entire staff of Life and Health Care for their compassion and wonderful care of Leah.
