C.C. Rutledge Dies in City

Charles C. Rutledge, 70, longtime Webster City resident, died at 10 p.m. Monday at the Hamilton county hospital where he had been a patient the past week. Cause of his death was attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. J.A. Farnham of Gowrie and the Rev. C.H. Pettersen of Webster City officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland cemetery.

Charles Clyde Rutledge, son of Robert and Mathilda Rutledge, was born Dec. 8, 1882, at LeRoy, Ill. When he was eight years old, he moved with his parents to Iowa, locating on a farm near Williams, later moving in to the town of Williams.

He attended the Williams school, later working for J.P. Talcott at the Williams hardware store. He spent several years in East St. Louis where he was a member of the police force.

May 15, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Francis Tash of Pekin, Ind., with the Rev. J.A. Farnham, then pastor of the Kamrar Methodist church, presiding at the services. Mr. and Mrs. Rutledge farmed south of Webster City until his health failed in 1947. They then purchased and moved into their home at 1111 Broadway in Webster City, where they had resided since.

Since he had moved to town he had worked with the county engineer's office.

He is survived by his wife; one sister and one brother: Mrs. Glenn A. Martin of Oakhurst, Calif. and R.B. Rutledge of East St. Louis, Ill.; also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. C.H. (Elva) Rowan, Lulu Rutledge, Dell, Guy and Roy Rutledge.

He was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of the Methodist church.

A quiet and friendly man, Mr. Rutledge had made many close friends during his residence near and in Webster City.
