Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Thursday, April 21, 1960

Joseph Irving, 83, longtime Webster City resident, died this morning at the Hamilton county hospital where he had been a patient since yesterday. He had been in failing health the past year.

Funeral services are pending with time and place to be announced Friday.

Joseph Irving, son of Joseph and Agnes [Carson] Irving, was born Aug. 1, 1876 [findagrave - with no headstone picture - says born 1877], at Ayrshire, Scotland. He received his schooling and grew to young manhood in Scotland.

At the age of 18, he came to the United States with his brother, William. He worked as a farm laborer in Hamilton county for several years.

He was united in marriage to Estella Barnett Jan. 5, 1909, and the couple farmed in the Blairsburg community and also south of Webster City in the Silver Hills vicinity.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Edna) McIntire of Webster City; and one son, William Irving of Sparks, Nev.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Homer Barr, Webster City and Mrs. Jeanie Burgess of Beatrice, Neb., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1924; two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services for Joe Irving, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. Arthur Oswald officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Mr. Irving died yesterday morning at the Hamilton county hospital.
