Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Thursday, April 21, 1932

Mary Ellen Adams was born Aug. 17, 1853 in McLean county, Ill., where she resided until she came to Hamilton county with her parents in 1855.

She was married to Samuel G. Layne Feb. 11, 1868 and they made their home in the Saratoga neighborhood south of Webster City.

Four children preceded their mother in death - an infant daughter, Myrtle Layne, Mrs. F.H. Ruppel and Mrs. F.G. Murphy.

There are five who survive their mother - James S. Layne, of St. Louis; Mrs. O.L. Gilmore, of this city; Harmon T. Layne of Webster City; Mrs. F.G. Kesler, of Webster City, and Mrs. Fern Howard of Cleveland, Ohio.

Mrs. Layne died April 6, 1932 following a paralytic stroke in Los Angeles. She was a member of Sharon Chapter 148, O.E.S. and a member of the Christian Science church.
