George William Merz, 76, of Webster City, died Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, June 9 from 5-7 PM at Boman Funeral Home in Webster City. The funeral service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 10 at 11 AM, with Pastor Jeff Flagg officiating. Please wear your favorite sports t-shirt to the visitation and service. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com). The family requests no flowers or plants

George was born on August 24, 1940, in Williams, Iowa, to Frank and Eva (Hart) Merz. He graduated from Williams High School in 1958. He married Sherry Dayton on August 4, 1966, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City. George worked at Merz Painting Service until his health would not allow him to continue. He also worked at Williams Drug, Handi Klasp, Electrolux, and Walmart. His fellow workers would describe him as a hard worker, who was positive and happy.

George was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He was a die-hard Cyclone fan and Chicago Cubs fan. George was an all around sports fan.

His family includes his wife; daughter Dawn (Greg) Obrecht; granddaughters: Jenna Arbaugh, Elycia Obrecht, Camie Obrecht and Arl Obrecht; two brothers: Frank (Joan) Merz and John (Jan) Merz; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Jane Holt and Darlene Merz; two infant sisters; and brother in law Art Dayton.
