DIES AT HOME NORTH OF CITY

Funeral Services for Mrs. A.C. Doolittle Saturday at Foster's

ILL TWO WEEKS

Mrs. A. Clayton Doolittle, 76, died last evening at 8:45 o'clock at her home, just north of this city, after a two weeks' illness. Death was caused by a stroke of paralysis. She had been in failing health for the past several weeks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. Fred Riggs, United Brethren pastor officiating. The body will be placed in the mausoleum at Graceland cemetery until spring, when burial will be made in Cass Center cemetery.

Mrs. Doolittle leaves to mourn her death her husband, and two daughters, Mrs. A.P. Miller (Grace May) and Mrs. Buryl B. Bahrenfuss (Elva Enna), both living near here, as well as one brother, S.C. Thompson, also living near this city.

Two daughters preceded her in death, Ester Olive, who died as a small child, and Mrs. E.J. Shafer, who died 30 years ago. One sister Mrs. George Studley, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Doolittle is also survived by 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Harriet Evaline Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, was born June 2, 1860, at Sandy Lake, Pa. When a small child she moved with her parents to Illinois where she grew to young womanhood. In 1874 she accompanied her parents to Iowa, making the trip in a covered wagon.

The family located in Hamilton county, three miles north of here, and the following year Miss Harriet was married to Arthur Clayton Doolittle, Aug. 29, 1875, in Cass township.

Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle farmed in Blairsburg township for many years and 29 years ago they moved to their present home, just north of this city.

Mrs. Doolittle was a member of the United Brethren church and was active in all of its organizations as long as she was able. Her first interest, however, was her home and family and to them she devoted her life. She and her husband were especially companionable and to him her death is a great shock.

Her children and grandchildren will also miss her greatly for she was always at home to welcome them and their friends.

Mrs. Doolittle was the sturdy type of pioneer woman, who cheerfully braved the hardships of the early days and watched with keen interest the progress of the communities in which she lived as well as the nation, generally.

She will not only be missed in the home but will also be missed by many friends, whom she had known over a long period of time and who were very dear to her.
