Webster City Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Thursday, January 28, 1909

Monday evening at Stanhope occurred the unusually sad death of little Dean Sogard, the six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. [Jacob Edward & Marie Textrum] Sogard. The lad had been ill but two days with spinal trouble. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. The death of the child, following as it did upon so brief an illness, is a crushing blow to the parents. The lad was unusually bright and at school and elsewhere was a general favorite. He was taken suddenly Sunday with spinal meningitis and, though everything was done for him, he passed quietly Monday evening into that great beyond from whose bourne no traveler returns. Rev. Knutson preached the funeral sermon at the Lutheran church to a large concourse. The sympathy of all is extended the family.

[listed on parents headstone at Lawn Hill Cemetery, Stanhope, Iowa, but cemetery records say he is not buried there]
