William J. Samuelson, 72, longtime Stanhope area farmer, died early this morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in failing health the past two and one-half months.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope with the Rev. Kent Larson officiating and with burial in Lawn Hill cemetery southeast of Stanhope.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

William Joseph Samuelson, son of John and Ellen Nelson Samuelson, was born Aug. 13, 1913 at Boone. He was educated in the Ogden and Madrid area and was graduated in 1933 from Madrid high school.

He was married March 26, 1936 to Laura Sundell at Boone, and the couple farmed southeast of Stanhope. He retired in 1972, but continued to reside on the family farm.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, David A. Samuelson of Jefferson and Dennis K. Samuelson of Jewell; four grandchildren, Steven, Brian, Scott and Anthony Samuelson; two brothers and two sisters, Roy Samuelson of Ogden, Arthur Samuelson of Story City; Mamie Woodard of Des Moines and Margaret Dyer, Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church where he was a deacon and trustee; was an active Farm Bureau member and on the FB board for several years and was also a Farm Service board member.
