Alice Josephine Fardal, 90, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, in West Des Moines, IA. Services will be held 11 am Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Valley Evangelical Free Church (Valley Church). Burial will follow at Lake Center in Stanhope, IA.

Alice, daughter of Elmer and Anna (Dahlberg) Bergling was born May 31, 1926, on a farm in Albert City, IA. When she was 3 years old her family moved to Marathon, IA, where she attended school through 7th grade. They moved to Boone in the summer of 1938 and she was confirmed in the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, IA, in 1940.

She graduated from Boone High in 1943 and then attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, IA, where she received her Secretarial Certificate in May 1944. She worked at the Madrid Register News until 1946 and then for Rudy Thorson Insurance Agency in Boone until February 1949.

She married Clayton Fardal on November 27, 1948, and their union was blessed with three children.

Alice worked as a bookkeeper for Cooperative Telephone Exchange, Stanhope, IA, for 20 years. Alice and her husband retired to Ames in 1994. They moved to the Lodge of Ashworth in 2013. They loved all their friends wherever they lived.

She enjoyed bowling and traveling with her husband. She also enjoyed playing pool, cooking for family, and making cards on the computer for all her friends and relatives. Blessed are those who live and die in the Lord.

Alice is survived by her son, Randy Fardal of Palo Alto, CA; daughter, Terri (Jack) Finley of Des Moines, IA; granddaughter, Brianne (Jason) Braun of Polk City, IA; great-grandchild, Gianna Braun of IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; daughter, Saralyn Alderman; father, Elmer Bergling; her mother, Anna Bergling; her brother, Herschel Bergling; and two sisters, June Sundblad and Eila Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm – 8 pm Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Westover Funeral Chapel in Des Moines. Contributions may be made to the Pathfinders at Valley Church or the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
