Webster City Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Thursday, December 28, 1922

Inger Johnson was born Feb 9, 1829 in Sweden and died at her home at Stanhope, Iowa Dec. 22, 1922, at the age of 93 years, ten months and 13 days.

She was married to Swan Nelson, Nov. 22, 1854. This union lasted 68 years and in this house were born six children. Three daughters survive - Mrs. John Jacobson of Stanhope, Mrs. Elsie Swanson of Des Moines and Mrs. Mathilda Bjustrom of Boone. There are also six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Nelson came to this country from Sweden in 1857 and settled in Moline, Ill., where they lived ten years. In 1967 they came to Boone, Iowa, and resided there until twelve years ago when they moved to Stanhope.

Mrs. Nelson was the possessor of a strong character. She never shirked any duty, no matter how trifling it might appear to others. The family could always depend on mother.

The funeral services were conducted from the home at 1:30 Tuesday, and from the M.E. church at 2 o'clock with Rev. G.H. Dick in charge. The remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen [Lawn Hill] cemetery near Stanhope.

The following old friends were pall bearers: Andrew P. Peterson, Oscar Erickson, Albert Jacobson, Hans Bjorkland, Erick Sudderberg and Emil Erickson.

[the headstone says Inga, his obituary says her maiden name was Jones]
