They came to America in 1867, settling near Moline, Illinois, when they moved from Illinois to Iowa. His wife preceded him to the beyond three years ago, lacking five days, having passed away December 22, 1922, at the age of nearly 94.

Mr. Nelson was always of a religious turn. A constant reader of the bible, committing great portions of it, making it his guide and comfort. When he was well, and before he answered the last summons the 17th of December, 1925, at 5:00 o'clock in the morning, he expressed the desire to be with his lord in the land of the living. Mr. Nelson was by nature a religious man, very devout, quiet and unassuming. A good husband and a kind and loving father.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. G.H. Dick at the home at 1:30 and from the church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, December 20. Interment was made at the Stanhope Cemetery [Lawn Hill].
