Funeral services were held today for Clara (Mrs. Palmer) Nelson, 85, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stanhope, with the Rev. Kent Larson officiating. Burial was in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

Mrs. Nelson, a lifelong Stanhope area resident and South Hamilton school teacher, died Friday at the Stratford Care Center.

Clara Mae Shatava, daughter of Ludvick and Mary Victoria Shatava, was born Jan. 21, 1900 at Earlham. She graduated from Fontanelle High School and attended Cornel College, University of Iowa, and Drake University. She married Palmer Nelson at Stanhope on April 30, 1937. The couple resided in the Stanhope area where she taught school. She later taught in the South Hamilton schools until her retirement in 1969.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband, Palmer, a brother, Lud Shatava of Greenfield, one sister, Betty (Mrs. Howard) Stafford, Charles City, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran church in Stanhope, the ALCW and YMW.
