Funeral Rites Held For Morgan A. Hill

Death came to Morgan A. Hill, highly respected 65 year old farmer, at his Stanhope farm home Thursday afternoon. Mr. Hill had been a sufferer from arthritis for fourteen years, and for several weeks had been in a very serious condition caused by complications that had set in.

Morgan Andrew Hill was born Oct. 19, 1875, in LaSalle county, near Norway, Ill. His parents were Andrew and Anna Hill. They moved to Iowa in 1895, locating on a farm south of Ellsworth. Later they moved to Ellsworth. He was married Feb. 20, 1902, to Anna Satre at Stanhope and they farmed, purchasing their home place in 1910.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Fern Vivian, 8.

He leaves his wife, three daughters and a son: Olive, wife of Gerhardt Fardal, of Stanhope; Gladys, wife of Dr. L.E. Pearson, of Sioux City; Anna Mae, at home and Idres M., living near Stanhope.

There are seven grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters: Albert and Jesse of Ellsworth; Mrs. Joe Dahl, Radcliffe; Mrs. Fred Peterson, Ellsworth; Mrs. N.P. Larson, Story City, and Mrs. Oscar Thompson, Belmond.

He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran church.

Mr. Hill had lived in the Stanhope community for thirty years and was extensively engaged in farming. He was always active in the affairs of the church and in the activities of the community. He was quiet and kind and always ready to render neighborly service. He held the esteem of the entire community.

Funeral services for Mr. Hill, with Foster in charge, was held Sunday at the home at 1:30 and at Our Saviours Lutheran church at 2:00 p.m.

Friends from this community and other towns filled the church to overflowing. A mixed quartet composed of Mesdames M.E. Fardal and Boyd Iverson and Messrs. M.E. Fardal and Clifton Madson sang two beautiful solos. Rev. Odean C. Monson, the family pastor, preached a sermon that was full of comfort to the family of this good man who had lived a Christian life and carried his Faith with him through his illness and to his death. Rev. Hans O. Oppedal, of Story City, former pastor of Our Savior's Church paid a short tribute to the life and Christian virtues of Mr. Hill.

The pallbearers were Martin Teig, Martin Olsson, Lawrence Jacobson, R.W. Wright, Carl Wahman and Rasmus Jetevig. They are old time neighbors of Mr. Hill and often worked their farms together. The body was interred at Lawn Hill cemetery, not far distant from Mr. Hill's farm house.
