SVEN HANSON PASSES AWAY

This community was shocked and grieved Thursday afternoon of last week to hear of the sudden death of one of Stanhope's most respected citizens. Mr. Sven Hanson, who passed away almost without warning as the result of a severe cold which settled on his lungs. The funeral services were held from the Lutheran church here Sunday, conducted by Rev. G.H. Dick, and the services were attended by what is said to have been the largest crowd ever gathered in the church for such an occasion. Mr. Hanson was every where respected and beloved as a faithful friend, a kind neighbor, and a good citizen, and a whole community mourns his loss. The church building was taxed to the limit of its seating capacity to accommodate those who were present to express by their presence the last token of respect. Many were present from the vicinity of Jewell, Stratford and Kamrar.

Sven Hanson [headstone says Hansson] was born in Bleking, Sweden, October 21st, 1837 and died December 8, 1910 at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 17 days. In 1867 he came to America and located at Dubuque, Iowa. On April 7, 1874 he was married to Miss Augusta Matilda Anderson and then moved to Hamilton county, where he has since resided. Until about three years ago he resided on a farm near Stanhope, and then retired and moved to town to spend his declining years.

Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hanson, five sons and five daughters. Four have preceded him to the Great Beyond. The wife still survives as well as six children. Mrs. Olaf Nelson, Mrs. Peter Hove, Olaf, Andrew and Frank, all of whom reside in or near Stanhope and Mrs. Lewis Sonerholm, of Blue Earth, Minn. Beside the immediate family a host of friends and neighbors sincerely mourn the death of Mr. Hanson as the loss of a friend and neighbor and citizen. He became a member of the Swedish Lutheran church at the age of fifteen and died expressing himself ready and willing to meet his Maker.
