BELLE EVANS, AGE 62, DIES

Stratford Woman Dies Two Days After Her Father, J.S. EVANS

DOUBLE FUNERAL

Miss Belle Evans, 62, died at her home in Stratford Saturday a.m. shortly before 5 o'clock, death following a three weeks' illness.

Death was caused by a combination of ailments including heart trouble and kidney trouble.

Miss Evans' death followed shortly that of her father "Uncle Joe" Evans, 92, [mother Celestia Hakes Evans] prominent Stratford man, and a Civil war veteran. She and another sister, Mrs. Josie Lowrie, had made their home with their father and kept house for him. She was very conscientious in the care of her father, who toward the later years was very feeble.

She became quite ill three weeks ago, but didn't realize the seriousness of her condition. She was not told of the death of her father which occurred Thursday morning.

Double funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Stratford at 1:30 o'clock today, preceded by a brief service at the home at 1 o'clock. The Rev. Stephen Lumley will officiate and burial will be made in Lake Center [Lawn Hill Cemetery, rural Stanhope] cemetery.

Miss Evans was born in Stratford [1871] and with the exception of two or three years spent in Montana, she had lived her entire life in that community. She attended school in East Marion. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Lowrie and Mrs. Albert Jacobson.

She was prominent in the Methodist church and also a member of the Rebekah lodge.
