Webster City Freeman, Webster City, Iowa, Wednesday, March 20, 1889

Ira Francis East died near Stanhope, Iowa, March 11, 1889 aged 28 years, 10 months and 20 days. Ira was sick for some time. His disease appeared to be consumption, from which he suffered greatly; but as he had given himself unreservedly to the Savior, he bore his affliction patiently.

We are requested by the parents [William & Mary Morris East] of the deceased to extend heart-felt thanks to neighbors and friends for kind assistance rendered during the sickness and burial of their beloved son.

While Ira was sick he requested
That he might have a bible of his own,
Which was presented and of it be tested
And read of that beautiful home-

Of the mansions so bright and fair,
And Savior who has gone before
Those beautiful mansions to prepare,
Where sickness and sorrow are no more,

Blessed book, Holy Bible, Divine,
Precious treasure thou art over mine,
To guide me, to cheer me, till life's day is o'er
And point to my home on that bright gleaming shore.

Oh, how happy I feel as I look
Oh this Bible so precious and true.
Brother and sisters I leave this book
To you and father and mother too.

Oh, may it guide you every day,
Morning and evening may it be read,
And teach you all to choose wisdom's way,
That none of you may death ever dread.

Holy Bible, blessed book so true,
Take this Bible, my last gift to you,
To cheer you, to guide you, till life's day is o'er
To point to my home on the bright gleaming shore.
