Mrs. Harmke S. Arends, 73, a longtime resident of the Jewell area, died early this morning at the Story City Memorial hospital where she had been a patient since last Tuesday.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell with the Rev. Thomas Bauder of the Calvary Baptist church in Webster City officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope.

Harmke S. Greenfield was born Aug. 9, 1901, near Kamrar, the daughter of Simon T. and Janna Koop Greenfield.

She was united in marriage with William A. Arends on Dec. 30, 1920, at the family farm near Kamrar. The couple lived on a farm east of Kamrar for 22 years then moved to a farm southwest of Jewell where they lived since 1943.

She is survived by two sons, Armyle Arends of Denver, Colo., and Merlin Arends of Jewell; one daughter, Mrs. Elmira June Telkamp of Webster City; two brothers, William S. Greenfield and Arend Greenfield, both of Kamrar; one sister, Mrs. Lena Huisman of Titonka; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 3, 1972, her parents and two brothers, John and James Greenfield.

She attended the Calvary Baptist church in Webster City.
