Richard Hill, 73, Stanhope, died Monday, January 18, 1999 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. John J. Walsh, celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Webster City. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, followed by a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday and at the church after 12 p.m. on Monday.

Richard Austin Hill, son of Cecil and Flo Workman Hill, was born Nov. 1, 1925 on a farm northeast of Stanhope. He attended Saratoga rural school and graduated from Stanhope Consolidated in 1943. On June 5, 1946, he married Martha Ermels at Webster City. The couple farmed north of Stanhope. He had also driven for Hove Truck Lines and Davis Truck Lines, then owning his own trucking business. For 28 years he was a jobber for Standard Oil and at the time of his death, he had driven a school bus for South Hamilton for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Teri Hill of Lyons, KS, Tom and Diana Hill, Carl and Jeanne Hill, all of Webster City, grandchildren Brett, Richard, Alia, Brian, Adam, Emily, Stefanie and Jonathan, great-grandchildren Jonathon Crenshaw and Madeline Hill, a brother Bill Hill of Stanhope, sisters Cecil Henderson of Webster City, Harriet Norris of Stanhope, Margaret Hanson of Stanhope, Virginia Welch of Omaha and Shirley Robinson of Fort Dodge, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Hill in 1977, his parents and a brother in infancy, Robert Hill.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Stanhope Lions Club and Webster City Moose #735.
