M.A. Sandal Dies at 80

Martin A. Sandal, 80, lifelong resident of the Stanhope community, died Monday evening at Crestview Manor in Webster City where he had been a patient the past four months. He had been in ill health for several years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope with the Rev. Enoch Hall officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 9:30 Thursday morning when it will be taken to the church.

Martin A. Sandal, son of Charles Oscar and Anna Sandal, was born Nov. 10, 1883, on a farm near Stanhope. He was reared and educated in the Stanhope community.

He was united in marriage Sept. 1, 1915, to Alice Nelson and the couple farmed in the Stanhope community for many years. In 1942, Mr. Sandal retired from farming and moved into Stanhope.

He was preceded in death by his wife Oct. 7, 1930, by one son, Merle; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Sealine; one son who died in infancy, by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Sandal is survived by two sons and two daughters, Everett Sandal of West Chester, Ill., Charles Sandal of Williams, Mrs. C.M. (Helen) Reed of Bontiful, Utah, and Mrs. Merrill (Evelyn) Pierce, Webster City; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Nelson and Mrs. John E. Iverson, both of Stanhope, and Mrs. George Siemsen of Redlands, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sandal was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope.
