Mrs. Mattie Kepler, 82, longtime Stanhope resident, died at the Hamilton county hospital at 10 p.m. Monday. She had been a patient there since March 23. She had been in ill health for several years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Methodist church in Stanhope with the Rev. Reed Richards officiating and with burial in Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope. The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 1:30 p.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the church for the services.

Mattie Johnston, daughter of J.A. and Ella Johnston, was born Dec. 21, 1874, on a farm in Boone county. When she was a small child she moved with her parents to a farm near Stanhope, and was reared and educated in the Stanhope community.

She was united in marriage in June, 1914 to William Kepler, and Mr. and Mrs. Kepler made their home in Stanhope. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1935; by her parents; one brother and one sister.

She is survived by two stepsons: Vernon Kepler of Iowa Falls and Lloyd Kepler of St. Paul, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Johnston of Des Moines; 10 step-grandchildren and several great-step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kepler was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of the Methodist church in Stanhope. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
