Funeral services for Lawrence Hanson, 72, longtime Stanhope resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Reed Richards officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

Mr. Hanson died Monday morning at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames. He had been in ill health the past year.

Lawrence Hanson, son of Peter and Sarah Hanson, was born Dec. 28, 1897 on a farm near Jewell. He was reared and educated in the Jewell community.

He was united in marriage Jan. 17, 1923 to Lucille Philp, and the couple farmed near St. James, Minn. for several years. They then moved to the Stanhope community where they farmed until four years ago, moving then into Stanhope.

He is survived by his wife; two sons and three daughters: Mervin Hanson, Dale Hanson and Mrs. Larry (Sandra) Miller, all of Stanhope; Mrs. Alton (Lorraine) Collins of Carrollton, Ga., and Mrs. Jack (Evelyn) Tiernan, Fort Dodge; 18 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothes and five sisters, Parker Hanson and Sylvia Hanson, both of Butterfield, Minn.; Edward Hanson, Mrs. Bernard (Gertrude) Neid, Mrs. Leo (Leonora) Sandmeyer, Mrs. John (Pauline) Sharp, Mrs. Marie Sandmeyer, and William Hanson, all of St. James, Minn., and Donald Hanson, of Lewisville, Minn., and also a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter, who died in infancy; by his parents and one brother.

Mr. Hanson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
