Donald C. Hadaway, 87, Stanhope, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanhope with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and after 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Donald Clair Hadaway, son of Harley and Rose Meyer Hadaway, was born July 23, 1917 on a farm southwest of Stanhope. He received rural schooling in that area and graduated from Stanhope Consolidated School in 1935. On July 23, 1938, he married Alice Arlene Wing at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. The couple farmed northeast of Stanhope. He attended a welding school and moved to Three Rivers, MI., working at Fairbanks-Morse Company. In 1945, he entered the U.S. Navy in the Great Lakes area. Following his discharge, he returned to Stanhope and started farming. He also engaged in carpentry work for Walt Raven, Chick-A-Way Builders and several years on his own. He farmed until 1991 and in 1995 moved to Stanhope.

Mr. Hadaway is survived by his wife, Alice, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Joan Hadaway of Dundee, MI., grandchildren, Kelley Hadaway of Bartlesville, OK, Shawn Curtis of Port Huron, MI., Robbie Hadaway of Webster City; Shannon Hadaway of Dundee, MI.; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Elmer Kitley of Lancaster, CA., Stan Twedt of Tyler, Texas, sisters-in-law, Shirley Hadaway of Fort Dodge; Helen Wing, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Richard Hadaway Jr., brothers, Kenneth and Robert Hadaway, sisters, Dorothy Kitley, Arlene Bashford, Shirley Brandt and Donna Twedt.

He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #191.
