South Hamilton Record News, Jewell, Iowa, February 12, 1998

Donald Egger, 70, of Stanhope, died Sunday, February 8, 1998 at the Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Gerald Caquelin officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service on Thursday.

Donald Paul Egger, son of Paul and Maude Walker Egger, was born December 16, 1927 at Cleghorn, Iowa. He graduated from Cleghorn high school in 1945 and started farming with his father. On October 21, 1947, he married Norma McIntire at Marcus, Iowa. The couple farmed near Calumet and Cleghorn. In 1959, they moved to Stanhope and he drove for Hove Truck Line for several years. He then owned and operated Don's Phillips 66 in Stanhope. In 1976, he started employment with Hamilton County in the secondary road maintenance, retiring in 1993.

He is survived by his wife; Norma, sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Carol Egger of Webster City, Terry Egger of Seattle, Washington, daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Terry Wells of Webster City, grandchildren; Matthew, Michael and Melissa Egger, Jason and Lisa Wells, mother, Maude Egger of Cherokee, sisters; Virginia Wightman of Sioux City, Virjean Knudsen of Nashua, brothers; Darrell and James Egger, both of Cleghorn, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Leon Egger.

He was a member of the Stanhope Parish, the Stanhope town council and a volunteer fireman.
