Herschel D. Eaton, 84, Webster City, died Tuesday evening at the Hamilton County hospital where he had been a patient for one week. He had been in ill health the past two years.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral home with Don Basye officiating and with burial in Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope.

Friends may call at Foster's after 5 p.m. today.

Herschel D. Eaton, son of George and Sally Austin Eaton, was born March 26, 1900 at Fountain Run, Ky. and was educated there.

On Dec. 24, 1919, he was united in marriage to Flossie Kathryn Hagan, at Fountain Run. The couple resided in Tracy, Ky., coming to Iowa in 1923 and settling in the Saratoga area. From 1925 to 1927, they farmed at Ipswich, S.D., moving to the Stanhope area in 1927.

He was employed at the Farmers Elevator until 1937 when he was employed by the Co-op Oil Co. until his retirement in 1965.

They moved to Webster City in 1975 and had since resided here.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter and one son, Mrs. Harold (Marguerite) Arntzen of Webster City, and J.D. Eaton of Albuquerque, N.M., six grandchildren, David Van Ginkel, Fort Madison; Jennifer, Annette and Michelle Eaton of Albuquerque; Gary Arntzen of Arvada, Colo., Pam Arntzen Van Mend of Boulder, Colo., and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of the Baptist church in Union, Ky., and the Senior Citizens club at Webster City.
