William A. Arends, 74, a longtime Jewell resident, died Friday at his home southwest of Jewell.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Becker Funeral home with the Rev. Damon R. Reese of Calvary Baptist church officiating. Burial was made in the Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope.

William A. Arends was born April 24, 1888, near Blairsburg, the son of Arend J. and Anna Naber Arends.

He was married Dec. 30, 1920 to Harmka Greenfield and the couple had always since engaged in farming.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Armyle Arthur Arends of Denver, Colo.; Elmira June Telkamp of Webster City and Merlin William Arends of Stanhope; 11 grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Walter Klaver of Kamrar, Mrs. Leonard Van Langen and Percy Arends, all of Kamrar.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist church.
