Gail Emmons, 61, of Jewell, died early Saturday morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient the past week.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bethesda Lutheran church with the Rev. Norbert Jolivette officiating and with burial in Evergreen cemetery at Jewell. The Becker Funeral home had charge of arrangements.

He was born Feb. 27, 1915 near Menlo, the son of Laiten Emmons and Minnie Thornburg Emmons. He was a graduate of Panora High School.

On Oct. 25, 1936, he was married to Leona James at Guthrie Center. The family lived in several Iowa communities, moving to Ellsworth in 1949 and to Jewell in 1957.

He was employed by the Hamilton county maintenance department until four years ago when he retired, due to ill health.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Zeda Olson of Story City, Mrs. Harold Amundson of Story City, Mrs. Judith Barkema of Jewell and one son, Denton Emmons of Kamrar; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Emmons of Stuart, Iowa; one brother, Dwight Emmons of Casey, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Willard Smith of Earlham and Mrs. Lewis Slauson of Grimes, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father, by one brother, Cal Emmons, and one sister, Mrs. Fern Putney.
