Harold G. Madsen, Sr., 61, longtime Webster City area contractor, died Saturday morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient the past 12 days. He had been in ill health since June, 1979.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Raymond Roden and the Rev. David LaMaster officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Flagfolding services will be held at graveside by the American Legion Post 191.

Harold George Madsen, son of Mads and Jenny Johansen Madsen, was born Oct. 17, 1918 at Webster City and was reared and educated here, graduating with the class of 1936.

He was married Jan. 8, 1939 to LaThella E. Short, and the couple resided in Webster City where he was employed by Zitterell-Mills until he entered the U.S. Army and was located in the Pacific war theatre.

After his discharge, he returned to Webster Ccity and he and his brother formed the Madsen Construction Co.

He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (LaDel) Iverson of West Minister, Calif., and Harold G. Madsen, Jr., Webster City; four grandchildren, Brenda and Monte Iverson and Debbie and Todd Madsen; one brother, Robert F. Madsen, Webster City, and one sister, Mrs. Ferrell (Elizabeth) Finley of Central Point, Ore.

He was preceded in death by one grandson; both parents; and one sister.

He was baptized in the English Lutheran church at Webster City.

He was a past commander of American Legion Post 191; past VFW commander; a member of the Webster City Moose lodge; a member of the Izaak Walton League.
