Webster City Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Thursday, January 13, 1916

Mrs. John Franklin died at her home in this city [Williams] in the early morning of Friday, Jan. 7 following a brief illness from influenza and ailments attendant upon old age. The deceased lady had been a resident of this community for thirty-eight years and was respected and beloved by all who knew her, and her death will be sincerely mourned by her pioneer friends and neighbors, who will unite with us in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved husband and children and other relatives. The funeral was held at ten o'clock Monday forenoon from St. Mary's Catholic church, the Rev. J.J. O'Meara officiating.

Obituary: Bridget [headstone reads Bridgett] Shine was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, on May 16, 1842 [headstone says 1841] and was therefore 73 years, 7 months and 22 days of age. She came to America in 1863, and was married to John Franklin on July 4, 1865. In 1877 the family came to Iowa and for many years resided on the old homestead north of Williams - moving to town only one year ago. Of the eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin, two died in infancy and a son (J.W. Franklin) [headstone reads John H] died April 23, 1915. The surviving children are: Mrs. Geo. A. Doyle, Mrs. Frank A. Doyle, William Franklin and Thomas Franklin, all of Williams, and Mrs. Eugene H. Planalp of Sioux City. Also, thirty-three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
