Melvin C. Bell, 65, of Humboldt, a former longtime Hamilton county resident, died Saturday evening at the Sisson Care Center in Humboldt where he had resided for the past six months.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Kitterman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Williams.

Mr. Bell, son of John C. Bell and Minnie Robinson Bell, was born Jan. 8, 1909, at Blairsburg where he was reared and educated.

He was united in marriage Dec. 28, 1931 to Mary Margaret Fowler. The couple farmed in Hamilton county until 1948 when they moved to a farm near Goldfield. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1955.

In 1959 the family moved to the Ames area where he was employed by Iowa State College for several years.

He is survived by four sons: LaVerne Bell, Woolstock; Bernard Bell, Bode; Donald Bell, Thor; and Rev. Robert Bell, Higgensville, Mo.; four daughters: Mrs. Dewayne (LaVonna) Rifen, Story City; Mrs. LeRoy (Barbara) Schaumburg, Clarion; Mrs. Charles (Mary Ann) Carney, Minneapolis; and Mrs. Paul (Carolyn) Cartwright, Dakota City; his stepmother, Mrs. Ethel Bell of Webster City; four sisters: Mrs. Harold (Beulah) Schroder, Webster City; Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Grove, Blairsburg; Mrs. Keith (Lucille) Vegors, Webster City; and Mrs. Richard (Ada) Janson, Webster City; one brother, John R. Bell of Jewell; one stepsister, Mrs. Rilla Brown of Webster City; an aunt, Ada Bell of Fort Dodge, 21 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, who died in infancy.

Mr. Bell attended the United Methodist church.
