Leo J. Butler, 81, Williams, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 at Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Surls Funeral Chapel in Williams. There will be a 7 p.m. scripture service Sunday at the church.

Leo James Butler was born Nov. 29, 1923 in Webster City, the son of Thomas P. and Mary T. Collins Butler. He attended school in Williams. On Oct. 10, 1946, Leo was united in marriage with Lorene Mary Smith at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They farmed together for 53 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Williams Lions Club.

Mr. Butler is survived by a daughter, Mary Fankhauser and her husband Paul of Williams; a son, Jim Butler of Belmond, a granddaughter, Cheri Matthews and her husband Terry of Winnebago, NE, three grandsons, Brian Fankhauser of Slater, Tom Butler and wife Dawn of Belmond and Dan Butler of San Francisco, Calif; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Lorene in 1998.
