Telva Frederick, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Jewell, IA on November 14, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Peter Mueller officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Telva Lorene Bibler was born November 5, 1925 on the family farm north of Stanhope to Dawson and Essy (Lagergren) Bibler. She was raised in the Stanhope community, graduating from Stanhope Consolidated School in 1943. Following graduation, Telva worked a year in Boone before accepting a job with the Register & Tribune in Des Moines.
She married Robert Frederick, a young GI from Bondurant, IA on December 13, 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their home on a farm north of Stanhope for 58 years before retiring and moving to Jewell in 2003.
She was a devoted wife and mother, dedicating her life to helping her husband with the farming operation and raising her daughters. She took an active part in her children's activities by volunteering at school activities and as a 4-H leader for 20 years.
Telva was a member of the United Methodist Church in Stanhope and active in its women's organizations. When the UMC was closed, she joined the Community Church of Kamrar.
Telva gave unselfishly of her time and talents. After her children were on their own, she turned to working and helping in the Stanhope community. She worked at the Stanhope grocery store and many years at the Stanhope Locker. She enjoyed helping organize the food stand at many Watermelon Day celebrations plus provided meals for the Lions Club for many years until her health failed. She always had a smile and a sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US and had a variety of hobbies.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren as they were growing up. Family was at the heart of her daily activities.
Telva is survived by her husband Bob of 69 years; daughters Pam Briggs and Jackie Frederick both of Jewell; three grandchildren- Sonya (Jeff) Burmeister of Nobleboro, ME, Rodney (Heather) Briggs of Ames, and Rodger (Terri) Briggs of Waterloo; 5 great-grandchildren- Aurora, Kirsten, Triston Briggs of Ames, Dylan Burmeister of Nobleboro, ME and Emerson Briggs of Waterloo; one sister, Verda (Cliff) Johnson of Yakima, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Kenneth, three brothers, David Dexter, Orlo and Stanley Bibler; and one son-in-law, Barry Briggs.
